She was born at Shelbyville, Illinois, August 16, 1848 and came to Story county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Utterback in 1852 and her home had since been in Story county.

Probably being Story county's oldest citizen in years of residence, as well as one of the oldest in years, she had watched the county, state and nation grow and had welcomed and accepted the many changes in life and living.

She was a woman of exceptionally fine character, devoted to her family and home and hers was a life to be envied in many ways.

She leaves a son Guy Elwood at Minneapolis, a daughter Rose Sellers of Ames, a son Sam Elwood at home, as well as 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A son Charles and daughter Lilly preceded her in death, as did one grandson Sammy, who was raised in her home and died in 1918.
