Funeral services for Christ M. Tweedt

Slater, July 9--Funeral services for Christ M. Tweedt were held on Thursday afternoon held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, at the home and 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem church. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. E. R. Rorem, who was assisted by Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge. Misses Edna Houge and Orpha Granseth had charge of the beautiful floral offerings. The pallbearers were brothers and brothers-in-law, Bernie Tweedt of Huxley, John Tweedt of Dolliver, Roy Tweedt of Sterling, Illinois, Edward Tweedt of Kelley, George Lee of Humboldt and Lewis Valen of Estherville. "Does Jesus Care," was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson. Walter Christopher sang, "Sometime We'll Understand," and Jeffrey Richardson sang a Norwegian song, "Fly Som En Fugh." The Bethlehem Ladies' Aid gave a sum of money to the missions in his memory. Miss Martha Sheldahl, Mrs. G. H. Khron, and Mrs. Delbert Martin of Des Moines also gave to the missions in his memory. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Christ Martin Tweedt was born August 24, 1832, on a farm near Roland and died at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, July 2, 1934, at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 9 days. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. S. K. Tweedt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. They also made their home in Emmet county for several years. In 1896 they moved to Story county. His marriage to Miss Maggie Sheldahl took place August 24, 1904. Five children were born to this union two of whom preceded him in death. The family made their home in Slater the past five years. His health had been failing for some time although he didn't give up working Saturday evening he became suddenly worse and was taken to the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. They found his condition so serious that they could not operate. He continued to fail and passed away early Monday morning. A post-mortem examination revealed that he had suffered from cancer of the liver, involving the abdominal viscera. Peritonitis had set in and caused his sudden death. Mr. Tweedt was active in church work as well as community affairs. He is survived by his wife and three children, Carroll, Angeline and Ervin and two grandchildren. His aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. K. Tweedt of Huxley, two sisters, Mrs. George Lee of Humboldt, Mrs. Lewis Valen of Estherville, and four brothers, Roy of Sterling, Illinois, John of Dolliver, Bernie of Huxley and Edward of Kelley and numerous relatives and friends.
