Funeral Rites for the Late Edw. Pierce

Final rites for Edward Pierce, 70, former Story county man, who died at his country home north of Clear Lake, June 27, were held at his country home "The Oaks" north of Clear Lake and were most fitting and beautiful.

The hymn, "The Rugged Cross," scripture from the 23d Psalm and John 12:1-2, the Lord's prayer by Father Murphey, and the hymn, "I'm Going Home." The hymns were rendered by Mrs. T. Thovsen and Mrs. Anderson unaccompanied.

Mass was at the Holy Family church and interment at Clear Lake.

Active pallbearers were James White, O. M. Hansen, David Beckman, Warren Kisner, Lloyd Crozier, G. G. Hegnew, and honorary pall bearers were Luke B. Miller, Joe Carney, Henry Halverson, Elmer Bruttrud, Ed Stork and Cecil Watto.

Ushers were Mrs. W. N. Hill, Mrs. Lloyd Crozier.

Edward Pierce was born in Buffalo, N. Y., April 17, 1864, passed peacefully at his home in Lincoln township at 11:20 p. m., June 27, 1934 at the age of 70 years, 2 months, 10 days, following a two months illness.

He was married to Mary Ellen McKee, Dec. 28, 1892 at Cambridge, Iowa. To this union one child was born, a son Dr. L. F. Pierce of Santa Barbara, Calif. Dr. Pierce visited his parents during the early part of his father's illness.

Edward Pierce came to Story county a small boy, received his education in the public schools of the county. Grew to manhood and became an industrious farmer. In 1915 he moved to Cerro Gordo county, where he has since resided.

He lived close to nature. His whole heart was in being of service to his neighbors and friends. He met the Savior's command in "That as much as ye do it unto one of these, ye do it unto me." He resigned himself fully, passing peacefully to his Savior.

He leaves his wife, son and wife and little grand daughter, Mary Alice, and a host of friends.

He was a loving husband, kind father, ever mindful of his loved ones.

We sill miss his pleasant smile and cordial hand shake.

Thus another good man has passed from our midst.
