Funeral Services for Popular Slater Woman

Special to the Journal.
Slater, March 3--Hundreds of sympathetic friends and relatives gathered at the Bethlehem church Thursday afternoon to pay tribute to the memory of Mrs. Clarence Ryg who passed away Feb. 26, after an illness of five days. The church was unable to accomodate the large number present. The services took place at the home at 1:30 o'clock and 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem church. The services were in charge of her pastor Rev. E. R. Rorem, assisted by her former pastor Rev. Edward Duea of Dows. The floral offerings were numerous and usually beautiful. Mrs. John Gunderson, Mrs. Lester Nelson and Mrs. S. B. Lande had charge of the flowers.

Miss Ruth Halverson sang "In the Garden." Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson sang the duet "Den Store Hvide Flok" by special request. The song "I Love You Truly" was sung by Mrs. L. S. Kloster of Des Moines. This song was also especially requested. The pall bearers were Joe Kies of Des Moines, Van Racek of Huxley, Lester Nelson, John Gunderson, Oscar Dahl and Glenn Fausch.

Emily J. Sheldahl was born May 3, 1899 at Roland and died Feb. 26, 1934 at her home in Slater. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Sheldahl who passed away a number of years ago. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her marriage to Clarence Ryg took place June 2, 1930 and they have made their home here since that time. One child, Adrianna was born to this union. Mrs. Ryg was active in the church and social life of the community. Of high personal character her happy disposition and pleasing personality won her the friendship of everyone and all have felt a personal loss in her passing. She was a member of the church and its Woman's Auxiliary. For several years she has assisted in supervising the Girls Sunbeam society of the church. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary and the Garden and Study club. Surviving her to tenderly revere her memory are her husband and daughters, Adrianna Shirley age 12, five sisters Mrs. Ben Hokel and Mrs. Ben Anfinson of Huxley, Mrs. Leo Olson of Randall, Mrs. Ole Wierson of Roland and Mrs. Edwin Erickson of Ames; four brothers, Eric Sheldahl of Ft. Dodge, John Sheldahl of Randall, David and Mark Sheldahl of Huxley, also her aged grandmother, Mrs. J. W. Johnson of Huxley, besides a host of relatives and friends.

The Woman's Auxiliary of the church and the Fieldberg Ladies Aid of Huxley presented a sum of money to the missions in memory of Mrs. Ryg. A large number of relatives also gave various sums to the missions in her memory. The interment was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
