Erwin Family Sorely Stricken

Mrs. Hila Nelson Erwin passed away Nov. 18, at 7 o'clock, at the age of 25 years. She was stricken with scarlet fever, the same disease that claimed her little daughter, Mary Jane, just a week before.

Weakened with grief and the strain of the sickness and death of Mary Jane, and knowing her other little girl was sick to the point of death, gave the disease an easy sway. She easily gave up and expressed her desire to die and be with her little girls.

Just one weeks to the hour that little Mary Jane's body was laid to rest in the local cemetery, her mother was laid beside her Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday death again knocked at the Erwin door and little Sarah Helen aged three years, answered the summons at seven o'clock. Sarah Helen succumbed to the same disease that claimed her mother and sister. She was child of perfect health, having taken the prize at the state fair this year, for being the most perfect child entered. The way she fought the disease seemed to prove it. She rallied Saturday after lying in stuper for two days and nights, and it seemed for a time that she was to be spared, but the change, as is often the case, as for the worse.

Sympathy seems a poor word to express the feeling for Mr. Erwin in the great sorrow. Quarantined as he is, it is impossible for friends to comfort him. It seemed that the people tried to express their love and sorrow by the profuse floral offerings. It seems almost beyond human endurance to watch one's family slip away, as he has been called upon to do in the three deaths of the past nine days.

Sarah Helen's body was laid beside mother and sister Sunday afternoon at three o'clock.

Cambridge truly mourns the bloting out of this most worthy family from their midst.

Five doctors were called for consultation, but nothing was found to prevent death. Also three nurses were employed to care for them, but care and science failed.

Will Erwin came from Britt to attend the interment of his son's wife. Mrs. Erwin of Britt is prostrated with grief and was unable to come. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nelson are in quarantine with Mr. Erwin.

The Citizens State Bank, of which Mr. Erwin is vice president, has been cared for by T. W. Larson during Mr. Erwin's absence.
