Hold Final Rites For Bertha Lande

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Lande were held Saturday afternoon in Slater. A brief service was held at the home at 1:30 where Rev. Onstad read a portion of the 14th chapter of John's Gospel and sang a solo, "I'm a Pilgrim". At 2 o'clock services were held at the Bethel Lutheran church in charge of Rev. P. E. Onstad who used as his text, Genesis 26:8.

He was assisted by Rev. John Meling of Veblin, S. D., a relative of the family, and Rev. E. R. Rorem of Story City, who gave brief messages.

The many beautiful floral tributes were arrange by Miss Edna Houge and Miss Marie Folgero. A large number of gifts of money to missions and other Christian activities were presented by relatives and friends. Miss Margaret Fritz sang two solos, "Still, Still With Thee", and "Then Pease Like a River." Rev. Onstad sang a Norwegian hymn, "Jeg Ved Meg En Sovn I Jesu Novn."

The pall bearers were Clayton Lande, Ed Twit, Nels Sabo, Oscar Fritz, A. A. Chader and Bert Estrem. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

The Worthwhile circle of the Bethlehem church served lunch after the service in the church parlors to relatives and friends.

Obituary

Bertha Sevold was born near Randall, Iowa, February 22, 1874, and died at her home in Slater on March 15, 1949, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 75 years and 23 days. Her parents were Lars and Cecelia Sevold. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Elim Lutheran church at Randall. Her marriage to Albert Lande of Slater took place in 1906, and they made their home in the Kelley community until they moved to Slater in 1915.

Her husband died in 1935 and a daughter, Blanche Marie, preceded her in death in 1940. She was a member of the Bethlehem church and the Ladies Aid.

Mrs. Lande was a devoted wife and mother and had a large circle of friends.

Surviving

She is survived by two children, Leslie of Kelley and a daughter, Carrie, at home, and one step-son, Amos E. Lande of Moscow, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Hanson of Hubbard and Mrs. Julia Christianson of Rake; also two brothers, Ole Sevold of Rake and Edward Sevold of Story City, and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Relatives from a distance who were present at the services included Amos Viland and Rev. John Meling of Veblen, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Herem and Justin of Keister, Minn., Mrs. Julia Christianson, Ole Sevold, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Pleny Christianson, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Christianson and Mrs. C. O. Espeland, all from Rake; Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Hanson, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Hanson, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hanson, Amos Hanson and Mr.a nd Mrs. Wm. Maynard, all from Hubbard; Mr. and Mrs. Casper Stenberg of Jewell; Miss Marie Lande of Des Moines, Mrs. H. O. Sevod, Ed Sevold and Lula of Story City, Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Lande and Mr. and Mrs. Amos B. Lande and Beulah of Ames.
