FORMER NEVADA CITIZEN IS DEAD
Local and county people will learn with sadness the death of James C. Lovell Sr., which occurred recently at Seattle, Wash. Mr. Lovell was for many years a resident of Nevada and it was here that Mrs. Lovell died in 1902. The following story is taken form the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:
Another of the oldest men of the city and a resident here for the past twelve years, James C. Lovell sr., died at his home, 1906 North Forty-fourth street, yesterday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. He was 84 years old on May 1. Mr. Lovell was a veteran of the civil war and a member of the Borrowed Time Club, an organization of men older than 70 years. His parent fought for the establishment of this country in the latter part of the eighteenth century, his birthplace being Weatherfield, Vt. When of an early age, Mr. Lovell, with his parents, moved to Wisconsin by way of the Erie canal and the Great Lakes. When 19 years old he drove a buggy with a party of settlers to Iowa. He later located in Story county where he lived until his wife died in 1902. When the call for men came during the civil war he left his wife and three small children to care for the family farm. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Home M. Hill and granddaughter, Mrs. L. B. Hoag, both of Seattle, and a son James C. Lovell jr. of Pomona, Kan.
