Rites Held For Ole Ostrem

CAMBRIDGE -- Funeral services for Ole Ostrem were held in the Cambridge Methodist Church on Monday afternoon Feb. 1, 1954 at 2 o'clock conducted by the pastor, John F. Rex and Rev. Peder Buland assisting. Interment was made in Oralabor Cemetery south of Ankeny, Iowa. Three songs "In the Garden," "Rock of Ages" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" were sung by E. C. Gardner, Mrs. Roy G---, Kermit Griffith and Mrs. Guy De Hoet. Casket bearers were Orval Hitchcock, Jack Donaghy, Elmer Passmore, Almand Burgess, Ralph Mathis and Walter Wohland.

OBITUARY

Ole John Ostrem, son of Mons and Elizabeth Ostrem, was born in Cambridge, Iowa July 7 1889 and died at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa January 28, 1954 at the age of 64 years.

He grew to manhood in Cambridge where he attended school after which he became a farmer and located on a farm near Elkhart, Iowa.

On December 20, 1911 he was united in marriage to Anna Wartburg, and to them was born one daughter, Margaret who with his wife, survive him.

In 1916 the family moved to Hopeville, Iowa and continued farming in Southern Iowa until 1934 when they moved back to Polk County.

Seven years ago because of failing health Mr. Ostrem moved to the present home in Cambridge. As a lad Mr. Ostrem was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and while in Southern Iowa the family became affiliated with the Methodist Church. In 1949, their memberships were transferred to the Methodist Church in Cambridge.

Mr. Ostrem was the eldest son in a family of five children. His parents both preceded him in death. He leaves a sister Mrs. Syvert Westvold, Huxley, Iowa, his brother, Andrew Ostrem, New Virginia, Iowa, and two other sisters, Mrs. Pauline Newgaard, Stover, Missouri, and Mrs. Clarence Hite, Salem, Oregon with other relatives and many friends.
