JOHN R. WITMER

COLLINS -- Funeral services were held for John R. Witmer in the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Thomas R. Woodin officiating. Music was furnished by Mary Tomlinson singing "In the Garden" and "Lead Kindly Light" and Virginia Fertig accompanied on the organ and instrumental music being played from records.

The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Doris Duesbury, Eva Morrison, Ora Hanson and Clara Serbein.

Casket bearers were Erville Bowers, George L. Kimberley, Forrest Long, Frank Witmer, Harold Witmer and Archie Witmer.

Life Sketch

John R. Witmer, son of David and Ann Witmer was born at Greencastle, Iowa January 11, 1873 and died at the home of his December 6, 1958 aged 85 years and 11 months.

His entire life was spent near his birthplace and in the Collins community in farming and in the banking business.

He was married to Ann Kendig in 1899 at Greencastle and to this union were born three daughters namely: Aileen, Mrs. Stanley Smith of Minneapolis; Lois, Mrs. Russell E. Hasse of St. Louis, Illinois; and Hilda, Mrs. Glen C. Templeman of Findley, Ohio.

Mr. Witmer was a member of the Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge for over 43 years. Mrs. Witmer died in 1953.

Survivors are the three daughters; five grandchildren, Edward, Jeanie and Aileen Hasse and Linda and Pamela Templeman and one great grandchild, Pauline Hasse.

Mr. Witmer was the last of ten children being preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
