Funeral Services For Clara Oxley At Peoria Church
Funeral services for Clara Wyanette Oxley who died January 5 were held in the Peoria church Saturday, January 8 at 2 o'clock with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.
Music was furnished by O. J. Woodman, Esther Woodman and Charlotte Caple. Flowers were cared for by Coleen Shaffer and Arlene Witmer.
Casket bearers were Lester Dunahoo, Fay Rupp, Lyle Jay, Ed McQuiston, Sam Backous and Milton Mohr.
Interment was in Peoria cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home at Maxwell were in charge of services.
Obituary
Clara Wyanette Oxley, daughter of William C. and Susan Carr was born Dec. 7, 1867 and passed away Jan. 5, 1955 at her home one mile east of Peoria on the farm where she was born. She was active in affairs of the community as long as her health permitted, being a member of the Jeptha Rebekah Lodge of Maxwell and of the Peoria Community Club. She united with the Peoria Methodist Protestant Church early in life.
June 6, 1888 she was married to John C. Oxley, who preceded her in death May 22, 1954. To this union were born four children: Clyde M. of Maxwell, Susan E., who passed away Nov. 7, 1913, Goldie M. Foster of Des Moines and Mrs. Fred Mead of Collins.
Mrs. Oxley was ill two years, twenty months of which she was bedfast. Her great desire was to live her entire life on the place where she was born and it was realized. She was happy in having the distinction of living the longest time on the same place of anyone in Story County.
Besides the children she is survived by five grandchildren Curtis W. Oxley, Des Moines; John Oxley, Maxwell; Corinne Faelz, Oakland, Calif.; Maxine Oxley, Maxwell and Alice Moore, Collins. Four great grandchildren, one niece, Olga Holm, Los Angeles, Calif.; three nephews Stephen A. Carr, Collins; John W. Carr, Macon, Mo. and Charles B. Carr, Collins.
One brother, Wyatt Carr preceded her in death August 14, 1928 and also a sister, Orlanda Carr, who passed away at the early age of 9.
