Funeral Services For Martin Egenes In McCallsburg

McCallsburg -- Funeral services for Martin Egenes of Roland were held Tuesday afternoon Jan. 1 at the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg with Rev. Olaf Holen, pastor of Salems church in Roland and Rev. Perry Heller of the Bethany Lutheran in McCallsburg officiating.

Mrs. Paul Egenes sang two solos "My Go and I" and "Abide With Me", with Mrs. Carroll Lura organist.

Casket bearers, all nephews of the deceased were Paul Egenes, Robert Eide, Lloyd Ingebritson, Marvin Ingebritson, Clifford Johnson and Arthur Rasmussen. Interment was in the McCallsburg cemetery.

There were many beautiful floral offering and many gifts of money to Missions and various charities given in his memory.

Relatives and friends from out of town were from Des Moines, Newton, Greenfield, Albert City, Cooper, Marshalltown, Sioux City, Forest City, Thompson, Leland, Boyden, Riceville, Garden City, Story City, Ames, Nevada, Roland, Zearing, Radcliffe and also from Albert Lea, Blue Earth, Elmore, Frost, St. James, Buffalo Lake, Luverne and LeRoy, Minnesota and Mexico, Missouri.

Obituary

Martin Egenes, son of the late Peter G. and Betsey Egenes, was born near McCallsburg, October 7, 1891 and passed away at the Hamilton County hospital at Webster City, December 3, 1954, of injuries suffered in an auto accident near there Monday, December 27. He was sixty-three years, two months and twenty five days of age.

Mr. Egenes was baptized and confirmed in the East Bergen church North of McCallsburg. He grew to manhood in this community where he was for several years employed as manager of grain elevators at Garden City, Albert City and Callendar, Iowa.

On June 12, 1929 he was united in marriage to Ruth Anderson of Albert City. They continued to live at Callendar until 1939 when they moved to a farm near Frost, Minnesota and continued farming until his health began to fail him in 1945.

They then oved to Tucson, Arizona where they lived until the spring of 1953 when they returned to Iowa and spent the summers in Walker, Minn. In November 1953 they located at Roland and became members of the Salem Lutheran Church there.

Mr. Egenes was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one who died in infancy and John in January 1897 and sister, Mrs. John Ingebritson.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife who was also injured and hospitalized in the same accident which took the life of her husband; four sisters and two brothers Mrs. Louisa Johnson, Story City, Mrs. Helen Eide, Leland, Mrs. Peter Lura, Roland and Mrs. A. N. Rasmussen of Forest City, and Otis of Houston, Texas.

He will be kindly remembered by many nephews and nieces, as well as many other relatives and friends.
