Funeral Services for David Williams Held on Wednesday

Colo, Oct. 19--Funeral services for David Williams, 69, were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, October 17, at 2:00 o'clock. The pastor Harold H Stark delivered the sermon. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs. Sherm Rinehart, Mrs. Roger Hopkins and Mr. Chas. Lehman. The pall bearers were George Thornton, Ralph Cooper, Claude Dickenson, Merle Dickinson, William Settle, and John Donnelly. Mrs. Ralph Cooper and Mrs. Claude Dickinson were the committee in charge of flowers.

David Williams, only son of John and Cordelia Williams, was born in Brecon, Wales, July 21, 1859 and died at his home in Colo, Iowa, October 14, 1928 at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 23 days.

He had been a sufferer from heart trouble and asthma for nearly three years but had not been bed fast until two weeks ago.

It will be forty years, the third of November, since he came to this country from Wales. He came directly to the home of his sister, Mrs. David Davis of Maxwell, Iowa. Story county has been his home all of these years, during which time he had made a wide circle of friends who honor his memory.

He was united in marriage with Ollie Mary Vrietsman [should be Brutsman], of Union, Iowa, on July 29th, 1897 at Marshalltown, Iowa. Ten children came to bless this union: Francis J., Howard W., Reece B., George C., Ray C., Elda E., Otis L., David Jr., Ivan L., and Walter, who died in infancy.

He was baptized in the Baptist church in infancy and has always been a faithful member of the same. He testified to this when before his death he gave his family the assurance that all was well with his soul and that he was ready to meet his God.

In Wales he followed the business of mining coal. This fitted him for the sturdy occupation of farming. He followed the latter occupation until last March when he was compelled to retire, moving to Colo at that time.

He was the last of his family, three sisters, two half sisters, and a half brother having preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, eight sons, Francis of Long Beach, Calif.; Howard of Prairie City, Iowa; Reece of Idaho; George of Conrad, Montana; Ray, Otis, David and Ivan at home, and one daughter Elda also at home. Three grandchildren, and five nieces, Mrs. Willis Evans, Farrar; Mrs. Bert Whitney of Cambridge; Mrs. Willis Rupp of Maxwell, Mrs. Baker of Nevada. Two nephews, Ray Davis of Maxwell, and Wm. Davis of Los Angeles, Calif., a number of other relatives, and a host of friends.
