Final Rites For Lois E. Yeager Held Saturday

Last rites for Mrs. Charles W. Yeager were at 2:30 p. m. Saturday, August 11th at the Methodist church in Colo.

Rev. Otto Hoffner of Alta Vista, former pastor of the Evangelical U. B. church in Colo, officiated, assisted by Rev. Darrald Eller, the present pastor. The 13th chapter of I Corinthians was read as her favorite passage of scripture. Mrs. Jack Koch, soloist, sang "Going Home," "Some Day He'll Make it Plain to Us" and "The Lord's Prayer," Mrs. Robert Quinn accompanying.

Casket bearers were Stanley Squires, Lavern Horner, Glen McIntosh, Richard Farren, Eugene Hopkins and Bernice Bowers.

The large number of beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Lois Dickinson, Mrs. Irma Hemping, Mrs. Mildred Brouhard and Mrs. Lillie Schuler. The many beautiful flowers and the Memorial Fund contributions, amounting to over $300.00 testified to the esteem in which she was held by her large circle of friends.

Interment was in the Colo cemetery with graveside services by Isabelle Chapter No. 271, O. E. S.

The following obituary was read in the services:

Lois Elizabeth Johnson was born May 28, 1899 near Churdan, Greene county, Iowa, the fourth daughter of Elmore Johnson and Jane Andre Johnson, and departed this life on August 8, 1951, at St. Thomas hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa, after a lingering illness at the age of 52 years, 2 months and 11 days.

When about two years old, she came with her parents to Story county. They lived on a farm south of Zearing for a number of years before moving into Zearing in 1910.

On April 4, 1922 she was united in marriage to Charles W. Yeager of Colo, at the family home in Zearing. To this union three children were born, Charles W. Jr., of Des Moines, Lois Virginia Pugh of Columbia, Mo. and Dean J. of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.

Surviving are the three children, two grandchildren, Linda Lois Pugh and Vicki Diane Yeager, three sisters, Mrs. Vida Tisdale and Goldie Barnard of Zearing and Mrs. Fern Deal of Colo and a host of other relatives and friends.

She graduated from the Zearing high school in the class of 1917.

Hers was a full and active life. She worked in the Zearing newspaper office, a grocery store, and for several years in the Farmers Bank of Zearing prior to her marriage.

She accepted Christ as her Saviour at an early age and united with the Evangelical church and was a faithful and active member to the time of her death. She was active in fraternal school and community activities ben a Past Matron of Isabelle Chapter No. 271 O. E. S., Past president of the W. O. club, a member of the Colo Rebekah lodge, past president of the Colo Band Mothers and of the Colo P. T. A., and was town treasurer of Colo.

She assisted in the work of the Colo bank office, being employed there at the beginning of her last illness, and was local correspondent for a number of years for county newspapers.

She was a devoted wife and mother, loyal to her friends and associates, giving unsparingly at her time and effort to any activity in which she took part. She lived for her family and for the good of others without thought of herself. Her active and unselfish life was an inspiration to all with whom she came in contact. She possessed a remarkable spirit of courage and in her last illness kept up that spirit to the end.

She loved the beautiful life, in music, poetry and nature, carrying this love into her home and throughout her life. Her unfailing cheery smile and sunny disposition under all conditions endeared her to all who knew her.

Those in attendance from a distance were from Cochrane, Wis., Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Marshalltown, Centerville, Sumner, Boone, Jefferson, Churdan, Scranton, Ames, Nevada, Story City, Zearing, Collins, Maxwell and State Center.
