Funeral Services For William H. Holmes, 85

Funeral services for William H. Holmes were held in the Collins Church of Christ last Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 in charge of Rev. Frank Sutton.

Mrs. Lola Oswalt accompanied by Mrs. C. R. Stone sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset." Misses Belva, Iva and Ada Swalwell took care of the many beautiful floral offerings.

The casket bearers were three grandsons and three friends of the deceased viz Winfred, Lowell and Gail Holmes, William and Henry Duesbury and Roger Huntrods. Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery. The following is the obituary as read at the church.

William Henry Holmes, son of Henry D. and Mary Elizabeth Holmes, was born in Jackson county, Illinois, on February 24, 1866.

He passed from this life on August 5, 1951 at the age of 85 years five months and twelve days. At about two years of age he came with his parents to Story county, Iowa, and located on a farm south west of Collins.

He was united in marriage at Auburn, Nebraska to Minnie A. Bates, also of Collins She preceded him in death in Sept. 1947.

To this union four children were born, all of whom survive him.

With the exception of the first year, which was spent in Nemaha county, Nebraska, they made their home throughout their married life in this community.

He is survived by his four children Hazel and Vernon of near Collins, Erwin of Clemons and Mrs. Lynn Oxley of Des Moines, nine grandchildren and four great grandsons. Also surviving are two brothers, John E. of Des Moines, and Walter F. of Collins and a sister Mrs. Henry Warrell of Maxwell as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
