Funeral Services Held March 18 For John Ihle

SLATER -- Funeral services for John Ihle, long time resident of the Slater community, who passed away Saturday, March 15, at his farm home, were held Tuesday afternoon. A prayer service was held at the home at 1:30 and services in the Bethlehem Lutheran church at 2 o'clock.

Rev. P. E. Onstad was in charge and spoke on the "Godly Old Age." There were three vocal numbers, "Den Store Hvide Flok," "Under His Wings" and "Asleep in Jesus," sung by Rev. Onstad, Otis Ihle and Nilus Ihle.

Casket bearers were Marton Nernes, Jeffery Richardson, Ray Halverson, Thomas Maland, Clarence Ryg and Thomas Weeks.

There were many beautiful floral tributes and many gifts for worthy causes in memory of Mr. Ihle. Interment was in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Obituary

John Ihle was born July 1, 1869 in Ilsvaag, Norway. His parents were Amund and Martha Ihle. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Vikedahl church. In 1888 at the age of 19 he came to America and settled in the Slater community and has lived here ever since.

On January 2, 1901 he was married to Mrs. Anna Ryan [should be Ryen]. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 7, 1951, at their farm where they lived during those years and where he passed away at the age of 82 years.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Anna, two sons Joseph of near Williams, Iowa, and Amos, on the home place, a daughter Theresa, (Mrs. James Larson) of near Randall, a step-daughter Cora at home, three brothers, Nels and Erick of Slater and Ed of Emmetsburg, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Ole Thorsness of Slater and Mrs. Josie Houge of Superior, Iowa, 18 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Lein, one brother in infancy and another brother, N. O. Ihle, who died in October 1947.

Mr. Ihle was a kind neighbor and a faithful attendant at church services as long as his health permitted.
