Harley Gearhart Funeral Held In Collins Sunday

COLLINS -- Funeral services for Harley Gearhart were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Collins Methodist church with the pastor Rev. Louis H. Joslin officiating. Mrs. C. R. Stone accompanied James Hart who sang "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

The many beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Oscar Serbein and Miss---a Wood.

Casket bearers were L. W. Dodd, L. D. Holland, S. W. Inman, Dewey Kern, Dr. C. R. Sokol and K. W. Tomlinson. The Masonic Lodge had charge of the services at the cemetery. Interment was in the Collins Evergreen cemetery.

Obituary

Oscar Harlen Gearhart was born October 27, 1880, at the family homestead near Colo, Iowa. He was the youngest of eight children, born to Sarah Cook Gearhart and Conrad L. Gearhart. Of these, all preceded him in death except one sister, Allie Dickinson.

He was married on April 20, 1904, to Beulah L. Wick. To this union were born two children, Harold Raymond Gearhart and Mildred Frances Mitzel. He is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren; they are Gloria and Harold Gearhart, Jr., and Sarah Ellen and Raymond Mitzel.

Mr. Gearhart spent his entire life in Story county ad the surrounding area until ill health forced him to make his home with his daughter in Bethesda, Maryland last year.

He was a member of the Collins Methodist church, and of Fervent Lodge No. 513 A. F. and A. M. of Collins.

He took great interest in community activities while he was farming and later while he was in the real estate business; however ill health resulted in his eventual retirement.

He passed away February 21 at the age of 71 years, three months and 25 days.
