Charles Sarsfield Laid To Rest In Colo Cemetery

Funeral services for Charles E. Sarsfield who passed away at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames Monday, April 28 were held Thursday afternoon, May 1, at the Methodist church in Nevada with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.

Mr. Paul Johns of Zearing furnished the music accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Norman C. Dobson.

The many beautiful floral offering surrounding the casket was evidence of the respect and esteem in which the deceased was held. Mrs. Florence Matthews and Mrs. Louise Baumgardner arranged the flowers.

Casket bearers were his three sons, Ralph, Raymond and Robert; one grandson, Charles Sarsfield and two nephews, Art Sarsfield and Orville Sarsfield.

Interment was in the Colo cemetery.

Obituary

Charles E. Sarsfield was born in Colo, Iowa, October 3, 1880. He passed away at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, Monday, April 26, 1952, at seven-thirty a.m. being 71 years, six months and 25 days of age.

Charles was the son of Robert C. Sarsfield and Susan Dunahoo Sarsfield. He was united in marriage to Wilda Irene Richmond, Dec. 23, 1903. They farmed for 20 years in the vicinity of Collins and Colo; then gave up farming in 1925 and moved to Chicago where he went to work as a livestock commission merchant in the Union stockyards. He stayed in this business for 21 years, then moved to McCallsburg in January, 1946. Here he has been in business until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Wilda and three sons, Ralph, Raymond and Robert all of Chicago, Ill., and one daughter, Mrs. Zola Musland of Garden City, also five grand children and one sister, Mrs. R O. Boyd of Nevada, Iowa. He leaves many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers. The grandchildren are Charles Sarsfield of Chicago, Ill., Lowell Sarsfield, serving in the armed forces, stationed in Japan; Mrs. Stanley Benedyk, Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Arnold Berven of Garden City and Charles Musland of Garden City. The great grandchildren are Faith Susan Berven of Garden City and Michael Benedyk of Chicago, Ill.

Relatives and friends who attended from a distance were present from Sioux City, Rockford, Ill., Chicago, Ill., Marshalltown and Rhodes.
