Rites Held For Otice Harmsen

COLLINS -- Funeral services were held Friday, at the home of Mrs. Aura Sheibly for Otice Harmsen.

Rev. Robert P. Robinson of the Collins Methodist church was in charge.

Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson, soloist, sang "Rock of Ages" at the close of the services.

Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Charles Carr and Mrs. Guy Elliott. Casket bearers were: Guy Elliott, Charles Carr, Ober Elliott, Amos Snyder, Earl Robinson, and Earl Dodd. Interment was in the Collins Evergreen cemetery.

Obituary

Otice William Harmsen, son of William and Cynthia Fiske Roberts was born in Audubon county, Iowa, June 28, 1878 and passed away Nov. 25, 1953 at the Story County home. He spent his early life on the farm southeast of Collins with his stepfather and mother, William and Cynthia Harmsen where he attended rural school and Collins High School. He later wen to Drake University where he graduated as an honor student from the law course in 1904.

He was admitted to the bar and began practice in Oskaloosa, then moved to Buffalo Center, Iowa, where he continued a very successful practice until 1911 when he suffered a nervous breakdown from which he never recovered.

He was a member of the I. O. O. F. and K. of P. lodges.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rumbaugh and Mrs. Aura Sheibly of Collins, one nephew, William R. Sheibly of Reseda, California and two nieces, Mrs. John R. Vander Ploeg of Pella and Mrs. R. W. Yant of Hollister, California.
