Mrs. Jennie Perry Laid to Rest In Colo Cemetery

COLO -- Final rites conducted for Mrs. Jennie E. Perry at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 1952, from the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church in Colo, Iowa.

Miss Donna Rankin was the pianist. Two hymns "Face to Face" and "Under His Wings," were sung by the Rev. Donald D. Eller who officiated at the service.

Flowers were arranged and cared for by Mattie Kleinschmidt and Isabelle Bamford.

Casket bearers were Ross King, Clyde Templeman, Roy Brouhard, Delbert Dewey, Roger Hopkins and Charles Reed.

The Brouhard Funeral home of Zearing was in charge of the service. Interment was in the Colo cemetery.

Obituary

Jennie E. Morgan was born in Sycamore, Illinois, on November 23, 1869 the daughter of William S. and Mary Morgan. The Morgan family moved to Colo in 1871 and the children were educated in the local schools. Jennie attended Normal school at Nevada and taught for five years in the Story County schools.

Mrs. Perry passed away August 18, 1952, after a brief illness at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 26 days. Interment was in the Colo cemetery beside her husband.

In 1893 at Harlan, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Fred C. Perry, son of a pioneer Story County family. To this union were born three daughters, Mary Ann Benfer of Des Moines, Eve Deal of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Lilliace Sefrit of Algona, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Perry built their home on Main street in Colo and lived there all of their lives with the exception of one year which was spent in Alberta, Canada, where Mr. Perry was engaged in managing farm and real estate interests.

In the early part of their married life Mr. and Mrs. Perry traveled with their own company of Uncle Tom's Cabin. They were partners in a variety of business interests and were extensive land owners. Their interests included the Perry and Morgan Hardware, the Colo Theater, and the Colo Savings Bank.

Mrs. Perry was received into the fellowship of the Calvary Evangelical church on August 11, 1901, upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ. She has given much in devotion and service to her church. Other organizations to which she belonged were the Eastern Star and the Colo Garden club.

Her death will be deeply mourned and she will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends.

Mourning her passing are her three daughters, two son-in-law, Don Deal and G. W. Sefrit, another son-in-law G. H. Benfer having preceded her in death two years ago, two grand daughters, Jeanette Baker of Bailey, Colorado and Carolyn Schmellick of Des Moines, one grand son, Peter Deal, of Shreveport, Louisiana. One grandson Perry Benfer, lost his life while serving with the United States air force in Italy in 1945. Also surviving are three great grandchildren Terry Benfer, Jennifer Baker and Linda Schmellick, two sisters, Anna Allen of Zearing, Iowa and Cora Bales of Colo, one brother William Mordan also of Colo.

Two sisters Mary Sawtell and Ida Talbott preceded her in death.

In 1943 Mr. and Mrs. Perry celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Colo. Mr. Perry preceded his wife in death in October in 1946.

Mrs. Perry's life was an inspiration to those around her, a consistent Christian faith gave her a cheerful outlook and made her a devoted wife and mother cherished by her family and friends.
