Earl G. Slemons Sr. Funeral Services Are Held At Ryans

Earl Graham Slemons Sr. was born the son of Ferguson G. and Margaret L. Slemons Sept. 30, 1891, at Rock Port, Mo.

He grew up in the Rock Port community and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1909, and then continued his formal education at the University of Missouri for two years.

Feb. 20, 1925 he was married to Myrtle Burg at Rock Port, Mo. They farmed for a number of years at Atchison County, Mo., before coming to Nevada, Iow, where they have resided for the past 24 years.

Earl Slemons had been a long time member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and a member of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. lodges. He died Friday, Sept. 29 at 3:00 p. m. just one day before his 70th birthday.

Earl had been bedfast for almost two years as the result of a stroke.

Those surviving include his wife, Myrtle, at home, one son Lt. Commander Earl G. Slemons Jr. of the United States Navy, now at Charleston, S. C. and one daughter Mrs. P. G. Hess of Nevada; also one brother, Richard F. Slemons of Skidmore, Mo. and ten grandchildren, Gail A. Hess of Los Angeles, Calif., Donna Cooper of Clinton, Iowa, Velda Weeks of Ft. Belvoir, Va., Richard D. Hess of San Diego, Calif., Shirley Lovejoy of Des Moines, Iowa, Patricia Graves of Des Moines, Iowa, and Kenneth, David, Phillip and Paul Slemons of Charleston, S. C.

Also nine grandchildren, a host of other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral Services

Funeral services for Earl G. Slemons were held at the Ryan Funeral Home Monday, Oct. 2 at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. Robert Link officiating.

Howard Peterson, soloist, sang two songs, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset." He was accompanied on the organ by Miss Beeula Settle.

The casket bearers were Dr. Richard Cooper, Calvin Graves, Thomas Lovejoy, Richard Slemons and Kenneth Smith. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery.
