THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 1, 1951, page 2, column _. "CHANCY SARGENT LAID AT REST - Chancy LeRoy Sargent, son of Ira and Sarah Bunker Sargent, was born August 28, 1854 in Hillsdale, Michigan. He departed this life at Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines Wednesday morning, February 21, at 5:30, at the age of 96 years, 5 months and 24 days. Chancy LeRoy was united in marriage to Beulah Ann Cowgill on November 20, 1881. She passed away on December 8, 1931. To this union were born seven children, Artie, Rollie, Hazel, of Maxwell, Lloyd of California; Alta, Myrtle and Ava preceding him in death. Mr. Sargent was a pioneer settler of Iowa who helped turn the sod of prairie into fertile fields. He was 7 when the Civil war broke out and since has witnessed the climax of 2 world wars. He witnessed the great changes of a century. It began with the log cabin and age of the covered wagon. He saw the building of great railroads, churches and ___. Grandpa was a member of Herald Lodge, No. 455, A. F. & A. M. Had he lived until December he would have been a member of the local Masonic lodge for 60 years. Services were conducted at the Peoria church at 2:00 p. m. Friday, February 23 by Rev. LeRoy Sargent of Hudson, Iowa, grandson of the deceased. Pall bearers were Dr. Wm. Joor, O. F. Strombeck, Ray Martin, Jim Ward, Harry Thornwall and Rollin Coughenour. Three songs, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "Jesus is All the World to Me" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. Ray Gooden accompanied at the piano by Mrs. H. C. Larson. The beautiful floral offerings were also cared for by Mrs. Gooden and Mrs. Larsen. He was laid to rest in the Peoria Cemetery beside his wife Beulah. The Masonic Lodge conducted grave-side services." "CARD OF THANKS - To those who have been with us in our bereavement and by kind words and kindly acts have tried to lessen our sorrow, we extend our sincere thanks. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hawkins and family, Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Sargent, Rollie Sargent, Mr. and Mrs. Artie Sargent and family."
