Colo Man Killed by Tractor Accident

A 37 year old farmer and the father of two children was killed Friday afternoon in a tractor accident at his farm home south of Colo.

Myron J. Iverson, prominent in the Colo farming and civic community, was killed when he fell under the wheel of his tractor while herding cattle about 12:30 p.m.

Details of the accident are not completely known and what happened can only be pieced together from the evidence that could be seen.

Gordon Holland, Collins, was on his way home from Colo when he saw an International tractor, its front wheels broken off and one rear wheel missing, at the side of the road. The tractor's motor was running and Holland knew there had been an accident.

Following the tractor's path, which went through a fence on the other side of the grader ditch, Holland saw a cow struggling to get up. Near the cow was Iverson.

Holland said that Iverson was alive but not coherent when he reached him. Les Dunshee, Colo, arrived at the scene and drive to Jack Dodd's to call the doctor and an ambulance. Iverson was dead before either arrived.

Iverson's father, C. A. Iverson, Ames, had gone on ahead to the farm buildings. He said that he and Myron had been getting in the cattle. The father didn't know that an accident had happened in the field behind him.

Apparently Iverson, herding the cows ahead of the tractor, had hit one of the animals with a tractor. The impact probably threw him off the seat of the tractor and through the door of the canvas "heat houser" mounted on the tractor. There were no fenders on the International tractor. Iverson's father said they had been taken off. He may have fallen on the wheel and been carried forward by its motion.

The tractor ran over the upper left part of his body and he also suffered a head injury.
