THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 20, 1930, page 1. "ANDREW RAY - Andrew Ray, 60, died at his home in this city, Saturday evening and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon. Services were held at the Church of Christ, of which he was a member for years and the pastor, Rev. Hugh C. Guy, officiated. Andrew Ray was a son of Archibald and Hilda Ray and was born Nov. 22, 1869, on the old home farm place, just north of Maxwell and passed away at his home here in Maxwell at 11 p. m., Saturday, March 15. He had been confined to the house most of the time for several years and in his last sickness was confined to his bed about two weeks. He was the oldest of five children. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Eva; his father who passed away Dec. 19, 1909; his mother, who died May 3, 1928, and his brother, Artie, who died July 8, of last year. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Sam Coughenour, of Nevada, and his brother, Charlie Ray, of Maxwell. "Andy", as he was known to all, united with the Christian church here in Maxwell in an early day, back in March, of 1890, before the frame church building was erected. The congregation, of which he was a charter member, was meeting in the town hall, now the Vallandingham building. For many years he was a faithful attendant in the Young Peoples Society, the Bible School and at church service. However, he has been physically unable to attend service with any regularity for about 12 years. He took an active interest in church activities until his confinement to the house several years ago. Nobody will ever know just how much "Andy" suffered in recent months and days and the suffering of body was intense the last few days, and especially the last night before he passed away. Yet in all he was a very patient sufferer, bearing this bodily affliction much as Christ patiently bore the pain and anguish of the cross. CARD OF THANKS - ____ were so kindly tendered during the illness and following the death of our brother, Andrew, we wish to express our sincere appreciation and thanks. Chas. Ray and Mrs. Sam Coughenour."
