DEATHS

Funeral services for Bert Sutter were held at the Slater Methodist Church on Friday, May 20 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Richard Nichol officiating. He spoke on the ultimate victory of life and death which is man's last earthly enemy. Rev. Lewis Malmin in Des Moines, the soloist sang "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Gale Coffin, organist of the church.

Military graveside services were performed by Slater Legion Post #260 with burial in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.

Active pallbearers were Roy Cole, John Hermann, Oliver Newman, Philip Rood, Frank Seafield and Harvey Sholund. Honorary pallbearers were Albert Alleman, Harold Carlson, Clayton Lande, Sanford Lande, Clarence Ryg and Dr. George J. Severson.

Bert Ray Sutter was born June 14, 1888 at Polk City, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Nora Sutter and passed away May 18, 1966 at Veteran's Hospital, Des Moines at the age of 77 years, 11 months and four days.

He was raised and grew up in Polk City where he operated a barber shop. He joined the Polk City Methodist Church in 1918.

He was united in marriage to Frankie Houser June 3, 1917. They moved to Slater where he operated a barber shop about 50 years.

To this union was born two children Veraldine, who preceded him in death Nov. 17, 1965 and a son, Rodney, and five grandchildren who survive him. He is also survived by his wife, one brother, Vernon, and two sisters, Mrs. Lula Hug and Mrs. Ada Landess, all of Polk City.

He served in the armed forces of World War I in 1918 being discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa in 1915.
