Obituary

JOHN O. HELLAND

John O. Helland, son of Olous and Johanna Caltvedt Helland was born Dec. 22, 1894 near McCallsburg, Ia. and passed away at the Story County Hospital in Nevada on Nov. 4, 1977 at the age of 82.

He was baptized Feb. 1 at the Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. C.C. Holter and confirmed Nov 21, 1909 in the Bethany Lutheran Church by Rev. J. N. Sandven.

On Feb. 12, 1919 he was united in marriage to Hazel Hanson at Roland by Rev. G. Smedal. He lived all his life in the McCallsburg area where he was engaged in farming until he retired in 1961 and moved to McCallsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, five sisters, an infant daughter, and infant great grandson.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel; one son Duane of Stewartville, Minn.; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; one brother, Otis of Addy, Wash.; three sisters; Mrs. Lovina Johnson of McCallsburg; Mrs. Blanche Moon of Edina, Minn.; and Mrs. Minerva Krink; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg on Monday, Nov. 7 with Rev. Orris Haraldson officiating.

Interment was in the Warren Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Benson, Owen Finch, Ole Haaland, Luther Holland, Gordon Woster and Lawrence Knaphus.
