MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 17, 1914, page 1: "GRANDMA PALMER DEAD - Grandma Palmer mother of James and Pierce Alder, died at her late home in Correctionville, Iowa, the latter part of the week; the body was brought to the home of her son, James, and funeral was held Monday afternoon at Farrar with internment in Peoria Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Q. Gharrett, a former pastor at Peoria, but through an oversight the obituary which was to have appeared in this issue, did not reach us."

MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 24, 1914, page 1: "OBITUARY- Amanda Powers was born in Delaware county, Ohio, 1832 and was raised in Marion County. Was married to Lewis Alder in 1850 and moved to Iowa in 1852; they settled in Mahaska county and lived there until 1871, when they moved to Polk County, where Mr. Alder died in 1879. To this union were born seven children as follows: Dennis W., of Washington; Mary Varner, of Correctionville, Iowa; Ike Alder, formerly of Nebraska, but now deceased; Flora Blinkard, of Montana; Perry Alder, of Mississippi; James L. and Pierce Alder, of Maxwell. Only three of the children, Mrs. Varner, James L. and Pierce Alder, were present at the funeral.. In 1892 Mrs. Alder was married to Nathan Palmer, who died in 1900. Mrs. Palmer, who died in 1900. Mrs. Palmer went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Varner, nearly two years ago, and was at that place when called home on December 3, 1914 . Mrs. Palmer was converted in early youth and was a faithful Christian through life, always kind and doing for others what she to make them happy. The funeral was held at Buena Vista on Monday, December 7th, Rev. A. Q. Garrett officiating and interment was made at Peoria.
