Obituaries

Ray C. Harmer

Funeral services for Ray C. Harmer were held at the Riis Funeral Home in Slater on Monday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Rev. W. A. Adix of Ankeny brought words of comfort based on II Cor. 1:9 as his text. Rev. John Ness read the scriptures and prayed the closing prayer. The soloist, Mrs. Ingborg Thorsness sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art," two favorite hymns of Mr. Harmer. Mrs. Alvin Lund played a group of organ selections.

Pallbearers were Larry Torbet, Richard Jones, Milford Ryen, Dean Heldt, Donald Hill and John Nervig. Honorary pallbearers were David Ringgenberg, William Cox and Wayne Peterson.

Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.

Ray C. Harmer was born August 11, 1895 at Decatur, Neb. and passed away at Bothwell Hospital, Sedalia, Mo., at 4:15 p.m., Friday afternoon, Feb. 16. He had been in rather poor health since his retirement several years ago. He died about three hours after he was admitted to the hospital at the age of 77 1/2 years.

He spent his boyhood in Nebraska and came to Slater when he was 17 years old. On March 7, 1917, he was united in marriage in Slater to Ruth Heggen of Slater. In 1967, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here.

After living in Slater a few years, they moved to Gary, Ind. where they lived 13 years and then came back to Slater where Mr. Harmer was engaged in construction work until his retirement a few years ago. About two years ago they moved to Lincoln, Mo.

When they moved to Lincoln, they transferred their membership in Bethlehem Lutheran Church here in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, Mo.

Surviving him are his wife, Ruth of Lincoln, Mo.; his daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Ringgenberg of Slater; five grandchildren: Mrs. William (Sharon) Cox of Lewiston, Idaho, Mrs. Donald (Sandra) Hill of Des Moines, David Ringgenberg of Lovell, Wyo., Mrs. Larry (Shirley) Torbet of Sedalia, Mo. and Mrs. Dean (Suzi) Heldt of Ames; eight great grandchildren; two brothers: Clifford of Dallas, Tex. and Everett of Lyons, Neb., eight sisters: Mrs. Wayne Anderson, Walthill, Neb., Mrs. Josephine Dutcher, Mrs. Florence O'Neill and Mrs. Gertrude Streck, all of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Margaret Winegardner, Emerson, Neb., Mrs. Dolly Moye and Mrs. Dorothy Edwards of East St. Louis, Ill. and Mrs. Ethel Mueser of Norwalk, Cal. and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
