Funeral Services for Mrs. Edw. Anderson At Gilbert Church
Story City, Jan. 28. Funeral services for Mrs. Edward Anderson, who passed away at a Des Moines hospital, on Wednesday afternoon, January 22, were held at the home of her mother, Mrs. Nels Jacobson, southwest of Story City at 1:30, and at two o'clock in the Gilbert Lutheran church on Saturday afternoon, January 25th.
Rev. Samuel Carlsen preached the sermon and Mrs. Philip Askevold, superintendent of Sunday school sang, "In the Garden," and "I Shall See Him Face To Face."
Casket bearers were Harris Hill, Eugene Hanson Bervine Anderson, Clifford Hanson, Norman Peterson and Earl Peterson. Interment was in the South St. Petri Cemetery.
Mabel Anderson, daughter of Nels and Martha Jacobson, was born on the Jacobson farm southwest of Story City, June 25, 1898. She was educated in the Story City High school, graduating in 1917, and then attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls.
For about ten years she taught public school in various districts around Story City and taught one year in Roland.
She was reared in the Christian faith, baptized and confirmed in the South St. Petri Lutheran church.
On July 17, 1929 she was united in marriage to Edward Anderson. To this union two children were born, a son John, 15 and a daughter Marlene, 11. In her home she was a devoted wife and mother.
Mrs. Anderson was active in the church to which she belonged. In the Ladies Aid she took an active part, serving for some time as secretary. But the Sunday school was her particular interest and field of service. She was not only capable as a teacher, but her heart was in that work. Therefore she remained faithful even in the face of things that discourage others less devoted and zealous for a cause.
Her untimely death is a severe loss to her home and to her church.
She is survived by her husband and John and Marlene, her mother, Mrs. Martha Jacobson, two sisters, Miss Anna Jacobson and Mrs. Emil Peterson and two brothers, Jacob and Neal Jacobson, all of this community. Also surviving are three uncles, Brint, Lew and Martin Hanson and two aunts, Mrs. Pete Wierson and Mrs. Bell Bush, besides many nephews and nieces, a host of more distant relatives and a host of friends.
