Van D. W. Peterson

Slater relatives have received word of the death of Van D. W. Peterson, Sr., a former Slater resident, who died Jan. 6, 1973 at a nursing home in Sacramento, Calif. Ill for several month, he was 83 years old and had made his home in recent years in Sacramento.

Van, as he was known locally years ago, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Peterson and a brothers of the late Archie Peterson. He was a graduate of Slater High School and Iowa State University in Ames and then went to Chicago where he lived many years, working in the field of marketing. Later he went to Kansas City to work in a clothing store until his retirement. Upon retiring, he moved to Sacramento.

He is survived by his wife Ann; two sons, both in the medical profession, Dr. George Peterson of Kansas City and Dr. Van Peterson of Sacramento; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including Don Peterson of Slater.

Preceding him in death were a son Nile; his parents, brothers and sisters. He was the last member of the well-known pioneer family who had the local men's clothing store from the time Slater was started until a few years ago when the surviving family members discontinued the business.

Mr. Peterson was a World War I veteran.
