Carl O. Queensland
Funeral services for Carl O. Queensland of Jewell, who grew up in the Slater community were held Monday afternoon, Jan 15, at 2 o'clock at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Rev. Norbert Jolivette, pastor of the church, officiated. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Jewell. Military services were in charge of the Legion.
Carl Queensland was born south of Slater, Dec. 31, 1888, a son of Knute and Melinda Queensland. He grew up in the farm community south of Slater and attended a rural school two miles south of Slater. He continued his education at Jewell Lutheran College in Jewell and graduated from that school.
He served in France with the army during World War I. Except for that period of service, he was a resident of Jewell since 1912. In the clothing business there over forty years, he retired three years ago.
In June 1922, he was married to Ella Jacobson. They observed their golden wedding anniversary last June.
He died Friday evening, Jan. 12 in Jewell following a short illness. He was 84 years and 12 days old.
Surviving are his wife Ella; one daughter Marie Ann Queensland of Des Moines; one son, Kenneth Queensland of Blue Earth, Minn.; one granddaughter; one grandson, and two sisters, Mrs. Alma Schaudt and Mrs. Millie Swanson of Slater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Alma Schaudt and Mr. and Mrs. King Schaudt from Slater attended the funeral services.
