TODAY'S FUNERAL FINALE OF TRAGEDY

GRANT BROWN, NEAR STORY CITY FATALLY INJURED IN A FALL

Story City, Jan. 20--Grant Brown, 59, was killed Wednesday when he slipped and fell and broke his neck and crushed his skull. He was butchering and had climbed up in the barn to fix the block and tackle. No one saw him fall but it is thought that he must slipped and lost his balance. Dr. Haerem was called and Mr. Brown was rushed to the Story City hospital but he died soon after. The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m. and he died about one hour later. He was unconscious from the first.

Ulysses Grant Brown was 59 years old and was a well known farmer living three miles south of town. He was born on this farm and had lived there all his life. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Brown, early pioneers in this community. He was married March 9, 1904 to Cora Madden of Boone county.

He leaves his wife, and three daughters and six sons, namely, Mrs. Ruth Miller, Arlene, Vera, Ralph, Reno, Homer, Dwight, Orson and Paul all of this place. Also one sister Mrs. R. L. Doolittle of Webster City and one brother O. S. Brown of Lehigh.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and 2 o'clock at the Grace Evangelical church. Burial was made in the cemetery at Gilbert.
