THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 4, 1971, page 1, column 3. “GEORGE E. NORTON – George Earl Norton, 23, Maxwell, became Story County’s third traffic victim of 1971, early Sunday morning in a one car accident two and a quarter miles east of Collins. Highway Patrolman James Gustason of Story City, said that Norton, westbound on the blacktop, failed to make a curve and rolled his car about 12:45 a.m. The Chevelle SS threw Norton from the front seat. He was found, suffering from a severe head injury, about 12 feet from the car. He was alone in the car. He was taken first to Story County Hospital and then transferred to Iowa Lutheran, he died at 11:10 a.m. The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Norton of Maxwell, he was employed at the Blue Cross-Blue Shield in Des Moines. Survivors, besides his parents, include a brother, Donald. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the Maxwell Presbyterian Church, with Rev. DeWitt Stauffer officiating. Miss Lori Eatwell furnished the organ music. In charge of the floral tributes were Mrs. Janet Schauper, Mrs. Mary Meyers and Helen Huggins. Casket bearers were James McIntire, Dean Vasey, Mike Zeiser, Steve Myers, Bruce Kirk and Kenneth Cowman. Interment was in the Peoria Cemetery.
