Services Held In Burg Luth. Church For Tygo Caltvedt
Funeral services for Tygo G. Caltvedt were held on Dec. 16, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, with the Rev. Perry Heller officiating.
Solos were sung by Mrs. Cecil Henderson and Mrs. George Knaphus with Mrs. Carroll Lura at the organ. Flowers were taken care of by Mrs. John Helland and Mrs. George Auestad.
Casket bearers were Samuel Twedt, Allis Wicks, Jeffrey Hougan, Elmer Sandvick, Elmer Newgaard and George Knaphus. Interment was in the Warren Township Cemetery at McCallsburg.
Obituary
Tygo Gunderson Caltvedt, son of Gunder and Sere Caltvedt, was born Aug. 14, 1875 in Ordal, Norway, and died at his home on Dec. 16, 1962 at the age of 87 years, four months and two days.
He came to this country in 1901 and was united in marriage to Emma Caltvedt the same year. To this union were born six children. In June of 1912, his wife died.
Aug. 26, 1916, he was united in marriage to Martha Westre. To this union were born six children.
Caltvedt spent most of his life in the McCallsburg community. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.
Surviving him are his wife, Martha, five sons: Selmer, Gary, Ind.; Elmer, Des Moines; George, Waterloo; Leonard, Marshalltown; and John, McCallsburg.
Also surviving are four daughters: (Vernie) Mrs. Harold Elliott, Minneapolis, Minn.; (Lulu) Mrs. Albert Ausdal, Marshalltown; (Emma) Mrs. Roy Severson, Nevada, and (Thelma) Mrs. Jimmie Stone, Nevada.
Other suvivors include, two brothers, Sigvert Caltvedt, Stavanager, Norway and John Gunderson of Slater; three sisters, Mrs. Gunvar Caltvedt, Ordal, Norway; Mrs. Johanna Ostvig, Brooklyn, N. Y. and Mrs. Lettie Ostrand, Quincy, Ill. Others are 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children: Pearl, who died in infancy, Sigvert of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Donald, killed in action in World War II.
