DEATHS

Martha Hill

Funeral services for Martha Helen Hill, 89, were held from the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24. The Rev. Victor Fiskerbeck officiated.

Miss Hill of Long Beach, Calif. was visiting in Iowa and died on Nov. 22 in the home of her nephew, Leslie Hill, in Des Moines.

She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hill on July 5, 1882 at Cambridge; was baptized and confirmed in the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge and remained a member of this congregation until her death.

She was a graduate of the Cambridge High School and attended St. Olaf College and Drake University. She was engaged in mercantile work in Cambridge. After retirement, she spent the major portion of her time in Long Beach.

She was active in the work of her church as Sunday School teacher for many years and was the last charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Mathis-Wire Post 233 of Cambridge. Preceding her were her parents, one sister Ella, and a brother Albert Hill of Cambridge. Surviving are a brother T. J. Hill of Tulsa, Okla.; three nephews, Leslie hill of Des Moines, Wayne Hill of Pocahontas, and Wendell Hill of Bettendorf; and a niece, Mrs. Lawrence Gardner, of Cambridge.

Mrs. D. E. Ryerson was organist.

Casket bearers were grand-nephews Tom Hill, John Hill, Blaine Hill, James Hill, Roger Hill, Brian Gardner and Richard Gardner.

Interment in the Cambridge Cemetery.
