"SIMON MEYERS - Simon Meyers, son of Samuel and Barbara Meyers, was born at Meyersdale, Sumerset county, Penn., March 26, 1851, and passed to the spiritual world at sun-down Sunday evening, July 19, 1931. He was one of a family of eleven children, having five brothers, and five sisters, of whom John, Henry, Sam and Dan Meyers, Mrs. Sanford Gooden, Mrs. George Rupp and Mrs. Ira Klingaman are living and two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Sarah Faidley, Mrs. Lydia Beal and Urias Meyers have preceded him in death. He came, when but a child of three, with his parents to Johnson county, Iowa, and settle at Kalona. Later when he was a lad of fourteen the family moved to the Meyers homestead, three miles south of Maxwell, where he grew to early manhood and began farming for himself. October w, 1873, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ellen Nalley, of Leaf river, Ill., and established their home on the farm joining the John Hochstetler homestead and six years later moved on to the "Penn Mound Farm," where they lived until 1893, when they came to Maxwell and for thirty-eight years have made this their residence. He continued in the stock business until three years ago. Six children were born into their home: Mr. Ida Deyo, of Los Angeles, Calif.; E. E. Meyers, of Greeley, Colo. John C., of Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Clara Gardener, of Perry, Iowa; Mrs. Lulu John and Mrs. Leota Ray of Maxwell. Mr. and Mrs. Meyers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1923, when nine of these who attended their wedding sat at the table with them and their guests and relatives. The occasion was one of great joy and added its richness to the remaining eight years they continued to walk together in happy companionship. To the companion of all these many years who now is left in loneliness the words of James Buckham are offered for comfort: "Nearer and dearer are the blessed dead than we are wont to think, when with farwells and tears we bow the head, Beside the solemn brink. O comforting, sweet thought - that though we stand on death-divided shores, Love can stretch to us its angel hand, and lay its heart on ours." Thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive him, Donald, Eldon, and Dorothy Gardener; Velma, Leon, Harold, Simon Dale, Eugene and Betty Meyers; Forest and Betty Myers; Marjory, Helen, Robert and Donna Mae Ray. Mr. Meyers and wife united with the Church of the Brethren in 1874, of which he remained a member at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Eben A.
