THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 3, 1901, page 5 column 3. "Henry Heiner was called to Bloomington Wisconsin, Thursday by the death of his wife's mother. Mrs. Heiner has been with the sufferer for some time past. Funeral service were held Friday."

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 10, 1901, page 1, column 3. "OBITUARY. - We take the following from the Bloomington Record. Mrs. Kolb being the mother of Mrs. Heiner of this city. Mrs. Marie Margarata Kolb, nee Sterr, was born December 9, 1828, at Grosbettlingen Oberant Nurtingen Kaenegreich Wurtenburg, Germany, and died at her home in Bloomington, Wisconsin, December 26, 1900. It is with sadness that we chronicle the death of this truly good woman, one of the earliest settlers of Crawford and Grant counties. She came to America in 1848, and settled in Chillicothe, Ohio, where she lived with her sister for some years, when she came west to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, where she formed the acquaintance of her now sorrowing husband, Max Kolb. She was married December 5, 1857, at Prairie du Chien. Four children were born to them, one dying in infancy. Three survive to bless the memory of a loving mother. These are: Frank, of Patch Grove; Mrs. Lucy Heiner, of Maxwell, Iowa; and Mrs. Helen Pohle, of Bloomington, all of whom were present at her death and funeral. Thus has passed away and gone to her reward another of the pioneers of Bloomington. Mrs. Kolb has been in feeble health for some years and suffered much during the last few months; but the cross which God gave was not greater than His grace, so that she was able at all times to bear her afflictions with much fortitude and great patience. She was brought up in the German Lutheran church, and in her girlhood was confirmed in it. Coming to Bloomington, she found no Lutheran church here. However, she did not relax her religious zeal on this account. As long as she was able she was a regular worshipper at one of the churches. She was a systematic reader of the Bible, and found great comfort in its precious promises. She was tenderly cared for by her loved ones and kind friends, until she succumbed, last Wednesday morning, and died in peace. She was a devoted mother, a loving friend and a faithful Christian. There remains to mourn her loss a husband, three children and six grandchildren. Her funeral took place Friday afternoon at half past one o'clock. Services were held at the M. E. church, and were conducted by Revs. Verran and Schoenfeld. The coffin was beautifully decorated with a profusion of flowers, and all that is mortal was peacefully resting in a beautiful couch coffin, and was attired in a white robe of cashmere, which was her own request. All signs of pain had disappeared from her countenance and she wore a peaceful smile. Upon a cold wintery** day we consigned to its final resting place the remains of a loving mother and a good wife. The sincere sympathy of kind friends and neighbors go with Mr. Kolb and his children in this great loss and sorrow." **Editorial note - spelling is used from the original newspaper article.
