THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, April 12, 1923, page 1, column 2. “EUNICE GIBSON-KERNS – Eunice Gibson, daughter of David and Emily Gibson was born July 28th 1843, in Noble County, Indiana, and passed away April 6, 1923, at the home of her daughter, Emma Welch, in Des Moines, Iowa, aged seventy-ninety years, eight months and eight days. She lived with her parents in Indiana until her marriage to John W. Kern July 4 1862. There were born to this union ten children, five daughter and five sons, all of whom are living except two sons, John Jr. and Vernon having preceded her to the Great Beyond in 1906 and the husband having passed on March 4 1920. The eight remaining children are: Viena Hardenburgh, of Michigan; Viola Huffman, of Indiana; Mary Bliss, of Chicago; Emma Welch and Jessie Kelly, of Des Moines, Iowa; William of Ira, Iowa; and Albert and Abram of Collins, Iowa. The direct descendants of John and Eunice Kern, including the parents, number even 70. The deceased was a member of the M. E. Church from girlhood. She leaves to mourn her loss, 5 daughters, 3 sons, 2 sisters and 2 brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. Services were held at the Church of Christ, Maxwell, Iowa, Apr 8 1932, conducted by Rev. W. H. Sandy of Elkhart, Iowa, and internment made in the Peoria Cemetery.”
