THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, July 28, 1949, page 7, column 6. "Former Resident Dies In Oregon Automobile Crash. - Funeral services were held Saturday, July 23 in Portland Oregon at 2:30 p. m. for John Henry Hostetler,** age 75, of 4422 SE 26th St., Portland Oregon. Services were under the auspices of the East Gate Lodge No. 155 of the AF & AM. Mr. Hostetler was killed instantly July 20 when the left front tire on the pickup truck he was driving blew out causing a collision with another car at Myrtle Point, Oregon. John Henry Hostetler was born at Maxwell, Iowa February 17, 1874, on the family farm just south of town. For the past twelve years he has been associated with his son, Harry L. in the donut business in Portland, Oregon. The survivors include the widow, Lottie B. Hostetler, two sons, Harry and John B. Hostetler, of Portland, Oregon, two brothers, Nicholas G. of Maxwell and Walter B. of Oregon City, Oregon. Two sistrs,** Kathrine Doolittle of Des Moines, Iowa and Mary Yoder of Oregon City, Oregon, a grandson Dale I. Hostetler and a greatgranddaughter**, Suzette of Lake Grove, Oregon. On June 20 Mr. and Mrs. Hostetler celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary." **Editorial note - spelling used is from the original newspaper article.
