MARY ALICE LUING
COLLINS--Funeral services for Mary Alice Luing were held in the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, March 5, with the Rev. A. E. Wilken of Ames officiating, assisted by the Rev. John L. Alexander.
Music was by Mrs. Donald Pointer and Mrs. Richard Holland who sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Ivory Palaces" with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Richard Halterman of Nevada and Mrs. Gerald Gilley of Maxwell.
Casket bearers were Norman Luing, Alvin Robinson, Donald Luing, Forrest Luing, Wendell Luing and Harold Pointer. Interment was in the Collins Evergreen cemetery with Brouhards of Zearing in charge.
Mary Alice Luing was the daughter of William and Ellen Sterneman-Pentz and one of twelve children, eleven girls and a boy. She was born July 10, 1875 at Cedar Rapids and died at her home in Collins March 3, 1958 at the age of 82 years, seven months and twenty-three days.
On Oct. 2, 1890 she was married to William George Luing and lived in the Collins community most of her married life.
Mr. Luing died in March of 1936. She was the mother of six children, all of whom survive, namely: Orville, Fred, Lyle and Dwight of Collins, Lowell of Albuquerque, N. M. and Mrs. Elsie Robinson of Ames.
The remaining sisters are Mrs. Hazel Beal of Des Moines, Mrs. Gertrude Payne of Cedar Rapids, Lottie and Jessie of California and a brother, Gerald Pentz of Des Moines.
She also had nineteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren, making a total of sixty-two descendants.
Mrs. Luing joined the E.U.B. church in early life and remained a member during her life time.
