MABEL RASMUSSEN

MCCALLSBURG -- The last rites for Mrs. Mable Rasmussen were held Friday, Oct. 11 at the Grant Lutheran Church northwest of Forest City with her pastor, the Rev. Edward Swenson in charge.

Casket bearers were all nephews of the deceased, Paul Egenes, Robert Eide, Julius, Marvin and Joseph Ingebritson. Mrs. Paul Egeness of Newton was soloist.

Burial was in the Grant Church cemetery.

Life Sketch

Mabel, daughter of Peter and Betsey Egeness was born in Warren township near McCallsburg on March 31, 1894; at the age of 5 years moved with her parents to McCallsburg. She was baptized by the Rev. C. B. Jacobsson and confirmed by the Rev. R. Smedal in the East Bergen church. She was a member of that church until 16 years of age when she with the members of family joined the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg.

She had lived in McCallsburg until her marriage to Antone Rasmussen on Aug. 19, 1913 when they established their home on a farm near McCallsburg. To this union were born seven children.

In 1947 the family moved to their present farm northwest of Forest City, where she transferred her church membership to the Grant Lutheran church.

She became ill in June, was a patient for sometime at the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn. Following her return home she continued to decline in health. She died Oct. 7 at the age of 63 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 17, 1957, also her parents, two sisters and two brothers and two grandchildren.

Surviving are the seven children, Mrs. Carl (Leah) Johnson, Nevada; Arthur, Sheldon; Mrs. Howard (Lillian) Snell, Chicago, Ill.; Raymond, Jacksonville, Florida; John, Houston, Texas; Ruth, Chicago and Mrs. Keith (Rita) Lemme, Forest City and four grandchildren, two brothers, Peter Egenes of McCallsburg, Otis Egenes, Tyler, Texas, two sisters, Mrs. Louise Johnson, Story City and Mrs. Bertha Lura of Roland.
