SLATER: Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29 for Andrew Maland at the Bethlehem church in Slater. Burial was in the Slater cemetery.

Life sketch

Andrew Maland, long-time Slater resident and businessman, died Thursday morning, June 27 at a nursing home in Nevada. Mr. Maland owned an published the Slater News for more than 35 years until ill health caused him to sell.

he made his home the past several years at the Sunset Home in Story City where he fell and broke his leg this spring. He was taken to the University Hospital in Iowa City and later moved to a nursing home in Nevada.

Mr. Maland is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Obert Maland of Minneapolis, Minn., two granddaughters, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Tesdall [should be Tesdell] of Cambridge. His wife and a daughter, Ella, preceded him in death.
