Life Sketch

Lloyd Waldeman Valline was born July 13, 1898 in Madrid to Cora Belle and C. O. Valline and died at the age of 58 years, 10 months at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, of complications following a stroke.

He grew to manhood on a farm near Boone where he was graduated from High School in 1917. Too young for the draft of World War I, he enrolled at Iowa State College to study Chemical Engineering. His father's sudden death left his mother and sisters without support and he stayed home to help them.

For several years he was bookkeeper in the Roundhouse Department of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in Boone. Later when this department of the railroad was moved to Omaha, he found employment as a delivery man for a Boone bakery. Here, he also learned the baker trade, a profession he followed for several years.

In 1923 he married Ruth Lucille Peters. To them was born one son, Ron, on May 28, 1926. He bought a bakery in Story City in 1929 which he operated until 1948. In 1950, he became bookkeeper for the Story City Light Department and in 1954 was appointed City Clerk, the position he held at the time of his death.

The deceased was a member of the Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church where he taught Sunday school classes for many years. He had also held numerous church offices and was active in all its activities.

He is survived by his widow, Lucille, his son, Ron of New York City; a sister Dorothy of Boone; two brothers in California, Floyd of Rio Lindo and Bert of Ventura, a step-sister, Mrs. Joseph Solby of Vallejo, Calif., and two step-brothers, Laverne Behrens of Boone and Louis Behrens of Oakland.
