Last Rites For R. M. Madison Held Tuesday

Last rites for R. M. Madison, 84, long time resident of Nevada who passed away July 20, 1952, were held from the Ryan Funeral Home, Tuesday, July 22 at 2 p. m. with the Reverend E. P. Windman officiating.

Organ music was played at the opening and close of the service.

The many beautiful flowers which testified to the respect and esteem in which the deceased and his family are held were arranged by Mrs. John Peterson and Mrs. Clifford Sorensen.

The casket bearers were Milo Berka, Alvin Fetterhoff, John W. Peterson, Mike McLaughlin, Harold Tipton and Lawrence Toms.

The following brief obituary was read by Rev. Windman at the funeral service during which he also brought words of spiritual comfort to those bereaved.

Obituary

R. M. Madison, 84, resident of Story county for 57 years, died at the Gilmore Nursing Home in Nevada, Sunday at 5:10 p. m. He had been hospitalized for ten months.

Mr. Madison was born Feb. 10, 1868, in Svenburg Fyn, Denmark, his parents being Lars and Christiana Madison.

On November 15, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Isabelle (Belle) Johnson* in Nevada.

Mr. Madison is survived by his wife Belle, three sons, Albert of Seattle, Wash., La Verne of Nevada and Ivan with the U. S. Navy; three daughters, Hortense, Mrs. Glenn Armstrong and Emma, Mrs. Jerry Berka, both of Nevada and Irene, Mrs. Charles Howell of Waterloo.

He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Madsen of Fresno, Calif., 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The wife of Rasmus Madison is sometimes referred to as Isabelle "Belle" Satre. Her parents were Ingebrgt Johannesson Satre aka Johnson and Elizabeth Hansdtr Instefjord. Her marriage record gives her maiden name and her father's surname as Johnson but her parents are buried as Ingebrgt and Elizabeth Satre.
