JOHN WILLIAM HANDSAKER
John William Handsaker, 94, of Nevada, died early Monday morning, Nov. 9, 1981 at Story County Hospital. He had been a resident of Long Term Care the past year and a half.
Mr. Handsaker was born Oct. 25, 1887 near Colo, the son of John Thomas and Margaret Lawman Handsaker. He graduated from Sherman No. 4 country school north of Colo.
On Nov. 28, 1916 he married Clara Burkhart. The couple farmed north of Colo until 1945 when they move to Nevada. Mrs. Handsaker died in 1971.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Colo, had served on various grain elevator boards, and as director of county school boards, and participated in various community activities.
Mr. Handsaker is survived by five sons, John, Clifford, Merlin and Wayne of Colo and Vernon of Radcliffe, a brother, T.L. Handsaker of Colo, 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, Ralph, and a sister, Ethel Couser.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Colo United Methodist Church with Rev. Harlan Babcock officiating. Burial will follow at the Nevada cemetery.
Friends may call at the Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada from Monday evening until time of service. The family will meet friends Tuesday evening. Memorials to the Story County Hospital coronary care unit.
