Henry Bowers, 81, Colo Native, dies

Henry Bowers, 81, a native of Colo and a life-time resident there died early Friday afternoon in the Loving Care Nursing Home in Marshalltown after a long illness.

Mr. Bowers was born in Colo in 1888 and attended Colo schools. He married May Etta Dewey June 19, 1912. She died in 1946 and Mr. Bowers later married Mae David* in 1962, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Bernice, Cedar Rapids and Lauren, Marshalltown; a daughter, Guenevere Olson, Marshalltown, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Shorten, Torrance, Calif.; Mrs. Pauline Veach, Ames; Mrs. Mary Postal, Colo and Mrs. Emma Settle, Nevada. A brother, Albert of Des Moines also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Anna Bowers and a sister.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Methodist Church in Colo with Rev. Duane Manning officiating. Burial will be in Colo Cemetery.

* SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Henry Bowers married secondly Mrs. Mae Davis, not David as stated. Her maiden name was Samantha Mae Looney a/k/a Mae S. Looney. She married (1) John V. Kirkland in 30 May 1910, (2) Thomas Leroy "Roy" Davis 25 Nov. 1934 and (3) Henry Bowers in 1962.
