Obituary of Mrs. Otto Thompson

Arttie Jane Thompson was born July 11, 1888 in Garden City, Kansas, the eldest daughter of Frank and Alice Tudor. Her childhood years were spent partially in Kansas and later in Illinois. In 1900 she came with her parents to Iowa and has been a resident of Story county continually since that time. She attended school in Story county and later completed her education at Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls. As a young woman, she taught for a number of years in the rural schools and later in Fernald and Nevada. During this time she became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Fernald, where she was ever an active worker both in the church and Ladies Aid.

On Feb. 29, 1916, Miss Tudor became the bride of Jacob Solberg. Their married life was spent on the Solberg farm north of Fernald. To this union was born a daughter, who died in infancy. Mrs. Solberg greatly enjoyed the life of the farm and it was during these years that she became interested in Farm Bureau work. She was elected to serve as a charter member of the first women's committee of the Iowa State Farm Federation. Because of Mr. Solberg's health they retired from the farm in 1924 and moved to Fernald where Mr. Solberg passed away in 1935.

Arttie Solberg continued her residence in Fernald after her husband's death. Always a lover of flowers, she helped to organize and was a charter member of the Richland Garden club. She was also active in various other community affairs and enjoyed teaching the adult class of St. Paul's Lutheran S. S. for 35 years.

Weds Otto Thompson

On Dec. 29, 1946, Arttie Solberg was united in marriage with Mr. Otto Thompson of Nevada and soon after moved from Fernald to their present home in Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson enjoyed spending the winters in Tucson, Ariz., and during these vacations added to their wide circle of friends.

It was after their return from the South this spring that Mrs. Thompson's health began to fail. In September she made a trip to Rochester, Minn. but the specialists there could give her no assurance. Her health continued to fail until the time of her passing on Dec. 1, 1952.

Mrs. Thompson was grateful to have with her during these last months her sister Mrs. Ruth Gericke of Berkeley, Calif., who with Mr. Thompson helped to care for her so gently.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband Otto H. Thompson, her father F. L. Tudor, two brothers, I. W. Tudor of Nevada and Lewis Tudor of Livingston, Montana; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Nelson of Nevada and Mrs. Ruth Gericke of Berkeley, Calif., also by several nieces and nephews in addition to other relatives and a host of friends.
