A. Stumbaugh was born in Rockingham Co., Virginia May 16, 1830 and died in Winterset Friday February 17, 1905, aged 74 years and 9 months. He moved to Indiana with his parents when a small boy and to Des Moines in 1853. He married Hannah Van Horn in 1855 who died near Story City, Iowa 9 years ago. He enlisted in 1861 and served three years and three months in the army. His body was brought to this city Saturday night and the funeral was held in the M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Nye conducting the service. Mr. Stumbaugh lived for some two years north-east of Nevada. he was the father of Mrs. David of this county and of a daughter in Des Moines, both of whom were present at the funeral.
