Sudden Death Of Former Nevada Resident Wednesday
A. M. "Aleck" Norris, of Ames son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Norris and a resident of Nevada for a number of years as a boy and young man died suddenly Wednesday night of a heart attack, at his home 803 Grand avenue in Ames.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at Adams chapel with the Rev. Tom Parish in charge.
Burial will be at the Ames Memorial cemetery.
Alexander McQueen Norris was born Jan. 28, 1884 in Story county, his parents being C. V. and Annie Belle Eccles Norris, and was married Aug. 18, 1908 to Bertha Northway at Moville, Ia.
After a position traveling for the Reid Murdock company in Chicago, Norris came to Ames in 1907, working first with the Tilden Manufacturing company until 1910 when he opened the Norris grocery store which he operated from 1916 until 1926. In that year, he became manager of the Service Plumbing and Heating company, a position he occupied until 1938 when he became associated with the Edwards Coal company for one year. For the past six years, he had been with the Carr Hardware store.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of the Ames Rotary Club.
Survivors include the widow, one son, Robert, of Chicago, two daughters, Anna Katherine Norris and Mrs. Betty Norris Dunlap, two sisters, Mrs. R. W. Nebergall, Des Moines and Mrs. A. C. Vail Jr., of Burlington, and one granddaughter, Ann Dunlap.
