OBITUARY
Guy Hague, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Hague, was born in Nevada, Story county, Iowa, January 1st, 1879 and died at his home near Alliance, Nebraska, August 29th, 1903, aged 24 years, 7 months, and 28 days. His death was the consequence of an accident, he being thrown from a horse, and living only 10 hours after this occurrence. Father and mother with the remains of their son arrived in Nevada Monday evening at about 11 o'clock, and were driven to the home Grandma Smay*. It is aid by those who knew Guy best that he was a young man of sterling worth, possessing a strong character, being unassuming in his disposition, quiet in his ways and free from all bad habits. The admiration and esteem in which he was held by those who were his associates and the kindness and courtesy shown to his loved ones after his death go far to show the impression his life and character had stamped upon the community in which he lived. The greatest thing that can be said of any one when he is alive or when when he is gone hence is that "such an one was good," he was a good man. From what we have heard such an encomium could be truthfully spoken of Guy Hague. The funeral services of the young man thus kindly but truthfully characterized were conducted in the Lutheran church by Rev. Mr. Hummon, Tuesday afternoon, and attended by the numerous relatives and many of the old friends of the family in Nevada and vicinity. The services throughout were appropriate, sympathetic and comforting. The burial was in Nevada's attractive cemetery. The family left to mourn this sudden and tragic death of the son and brother, are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Hague, old and long time residents of Nevada, the brothers, Edwin of Tacoma, Washington, John and Lee of Alliance, Nebraska, and sisters, Nettie Hague Shaw of Nevada and Mamie Hix of Wyoming. The old Story County friends deeply sympathize with the household in their great bereavement.
For the marked kindness and assistance extended them both at Alliance and in Nevada by the Woodmen and Knights of Pythias and hosts of other friends, Mr. and Mrs. Hague are sincerely appreciative. Mr. and Mrs. Hague were accompanied on their sad journey by Miss Mabel Johnson, an intimate friend of the family. They will return to Alliance Friday of this week.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Guy Hague was the son Alonzo Burns Hague and Anna Elizabeth Smay. "Grandma Smay" would be his maternal grandmother, Mary Ann (Sowers) Smay. She was the widow of Absolom Smay, who had died the previous year in 1902.
