FORMER STORY COUNTY MAN DEAD

JOHN OLSON, OF ROLAND, PASSED AWAY AT HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER.

John Olson for many years a well known resident of the north part of Howard township, where he was engaged in farming and buying shipping live stock died at an early hour Monday morning, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam Swenson, of Marshalltown, with whom he had been making his home for about two years. Death followed an illness of two months dropsy being the cause. Short funeral services were held yesterday at the home at --30, after which the remains were taken to Roland where the regular services were conducted at Bergen church by Rev. Smedal at three in the afternoon. Interment was made at the Roland cemetery.

Mr. Olson was born in the province of Bergen, Norway in September 1834. He came to this country in the early 60s and settled in Clinton county. He lived there and in Linn and Benton counties until 1868 when he moved to Story county buying a farm four miles northeast of Roland which he owned at the time of his death, and on which he lived until he came to Marshalltown to live with his daughter.

Mr. Olson is survived by three sons and one daughter at whose home he died. The sons are Ole, of Clarinda, George of Marshalltown, and Nels Olson, of Roland. Mrs. Olson died four years ago last spring.

The deceased although rather an eccentric character was a man of industry and integrity and will leave many friend who regarded him well.
